Choosing the right digital storage conversion

Storage manufacturers and most network contexts use decimal units: 1 GB equals 1,000 MB and 1 TB equals 1,000 GB. Binary units use different names and powers of 1,024.

If an operating system reports GiB or TiB, do not compare the number directly with decimal GB or TB without converting the unit convention as well.
